Sericulture in Jaintia Hills is the most important cottage based, eco –friendly industries in the Rural areas. Sericulture plays an important role in the production of silk yarn. Till date 2655 families are involved in Sericulture Farming.
Main Objectives.
The thrust area under Sericulture is to boost up cocoon and silk production by development of systematic and economic plantation at sericultural farmers level so as to enhance the productivity. Training facilities are provided to the farmers on improved methods.

Nursery Activities
Bed preparation, fencing collection, preparation and planting of cuttings, weeding and watering.
Basic Statistics
There are 4(four) seed farms, 3 for mulberry and 1 for Eri. There are 2 nurseries to rear, planting materials 1at Ummulong and 1 at Nartiang.There are 21 Nos. of Govt.Chowki rearing Centres and 20 Nos. of private chowki rearing centres to rear the young worms.
